After three seasons as the head coach at his alma mater, Brian Lane announced on Monday that he will resign as Byrnes head football coach at the end of the school year.

This past season, the Rebels were 3-7 and failed to make the playoffs for the first time since the 90’s.

In three seasons at Byrnes, Brian Lane was 27-11, and in 10 years as a head coach his overall record is 88-40.

Byrnes Principal Todd Hardy told 7 Sports Monday afternoon that he and superintendent Dr. Scott Turner met with Lane last week and told him that they wanted him to continue as head coach, but changes would have to be made. Hardy would not specify the changes that were requested of Lane.

Lane called Hardy Monday morning, and said that after prayer and discussing the decision with his family, he decided stepped down.

In a statement, Spartanburg District Five Superindentent Turner said the district is, “Grateful for Coach Lane’s contributions to Byrnes High School, and more importantly, his leadership of our student athletes over the last three seasons.”
